Creating Characters part 2

As expected, it has taking me a while to complete the first character design from Creating Characters with Personality by Tom Bancroft, but finally, here is Dillon-the hero.

I created quite a few sketches to work out the gesture to fit his laid-back, nice guy personality.

It’s my first attempt at inking and colouring using traditional media instead of Vector illustrations for a long time. I used my newly purchased set of Faber Castell Pitt Artist Pens, which I’m quite liking. Once inked, I scanned in and coloured in Pixelmator for the final piece.

You can see a larger version of the finished piece on my main portfolio site.

I have a long way to go to improve my inking skills, so I would appreciate it if anyone can recommend books or links to inking tutorials. Any comments and (useful) critique welcome.

Thanks for viewing!
